Coban daily huipil. W 94 x L 90 cm opened. This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three black cotton base panels. It is decorated with supplementary brocade in rayon to mimic silk. Motifs in the brocade include deer (traditional to Coban), people and universal diamonds. Like all Coban huipils, the interior is a forest of loose threads. Coban style huipils are now worn widely by Guatemalan Maya women. The head hole is trimmed with black crochet. It is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó at the Artesanos market in Antigua. (11-15) $ 120. Sold.
