Coban daily huipil. W 94 x L 90 cm opened. This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in
three black cotton base panels. It is decorated with supplementary brocade in rayon to mimic silk. Motifs in the
brocade include deer (traditional to Coban), people and universal diamonds. Like all Coban huipils, the interior
is a forest of loose threads. Coban style huipils are now worn widely by Guatemalan Maya women. The head hole is
trimmed with black crochet. It is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó at the
Artesanos market in Antigua. (11-15) $ 120. Sold.
