Chuarrancho ceremonial huipil. W99 x L128 cm opened. This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels that are joined by a hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated by dense and extensive supplementary brocade in horizontal bands featuring bird, animal and the sacred cieba tree motifs. Across the shoulders is a band of facing S-curves surrounding corn plants, a duality symbol. The collar is trimmed with a thick embroidered stitch typical of Chuarrancho huipils.
