Chuarrancho ceremonial huipil.

This circa-1970 Churrarancho huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels, joined in the middle by a hand embroidered decorative seam. This huipil features very dense brocade in horizontal bands, with mixed colors in and abstract arrangement. The head opening features a hand embroidered collar typical of Chuarrancho huipils. “Densely brocaded patterns in purple and red are characteristic of the Chuarrancho ceremonial huipil. . . (O)pen down the sides . . .worn outside the skirt and covered with supplemental weft life forms”. (“Threads of Identity”, Altman and West, p. 176.)
