Chichicastenango tzute (utility cloth). W124 x L116 cm. This post-1980 tzute was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels with predominantly red and brown warp stripes. The panels are joined by a hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seam with one color (maroon) done in hand spun silk, indicating possible ceremonial use. The panels are decorated by supplementary brocade featuring rows of double-headed eagle motifs. Unlike most Chichicastenango tzutes, the figures are very uniform. This extra large tzute is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Estefana Culajah of Patzún. (9-237) Was $200. Now $ 140.
