Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil. This beautiful circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 brown cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. Decorative motifs in supplementary brocade include the double-headed eagle, plumed serpent and universal diamond. Most of the brocade and embroidery is in silk. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and is here hand embroidered, primarily in silk. This very fine huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. W 89 x L 68 cm. (8-76) $ 250.
