Chichicastenango vintage daily huipil. W91 x L164 cm opened. This fine circa-1950 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 hand-spun white cotton base panels. These panels are joined by hand embroidered multi-colored and hand spun indigo decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated than the side panels. The brocade features the plumed serpent motif with universal diamonds interspersed. The two "lunas" on the shoulders are original. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and was hand embroidered with chain stitching in cotton. This huipil is in good condition. It was acquired from Bonifacia Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus. (8-70) $180.
