Chichicastenango vintage huipil. W94 x L132 cm opened. This fine pre-1960 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 hand-spun white cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated than the side panels. The central decorative motif is a very abstracted plumed serpent motif with four universal diamonds across the shoulders. The supplementary brocade is in wool. The twp "lunas" are original. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and was hand embroidered with chain stitching in cotton and silk. This huipil is in very good condition.
