Chichicastenango vintage woman's tzute - possibly ceremonial. (W106 x L102 cm) This pre-1980 tzute was hand woven on a back strap loom in 2 identical striped panels joined by a hand embroidered decorative seam. The decorative seam is multicolor cotton and maroon silk. Silk is associated with ceremonial use. Some of the stripes feature simple ikat patterns in indigo dye. It is in very good condition - no holes. Collected from Maria Huarcas Aigua in Chichicastenango. (5-418) $95
