Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil.

This circa-1980 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 brown cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seams, partially of silk. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated than the side panels. The decoration is primarily in supplementary brocade, much of it in silk, featuring variations on the plumed serpent and universal diamond motifs. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and is hand embroidered with chain stitching in cotton and silk. This fine huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Bonifacia Mendez Boco of Santa Maria de Jesus. W84 x L138 cm opened. (5-284) $200. OBO
