Chichicastenango daily huipil.
(W88 x L140 cm) This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 black cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seams. The center panel is wider (33 cm) and more extensively decorated than the side panels (27.5 cm). The central decorative motif on all panels is of highly abstract double headed eagle designs that are surrounded by and incorporate variations on plumed serpent and universal diamond designs. The typical sunburst collar was embroidered chain stitching in cotton. This fine huipil is in very good condition. Collected from Bonifacia Méndez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus in Antigua Guatemala.
