Santo Tomás Chichicastenango vintage ceremonial huipil. W84 x L148 cm opened. This circa-1950 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton base panels. The base thread is hand spun. The panels are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams and below them, hand-spun indigo dyed thread, a traditional feature on older Chichicastenango huipils. The supplementary brocade is primarily in wool. It is an early example of the use of the floral motif in Chichicastenango huipils. Much of the hand embroidered decorative seams and the chain stitch outlining the sunburst collar and the two “lunas” is in silk. This huipil is a fine antique in very good condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (4-288) $ 275 *SOLD*
