Santo Tomás Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil.

This beautiful post-2000 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three brown cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade, all in silk, in magenta, maroon, red and purple. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motifs are highly abstracted double-headed eagle motifs. Exceptionally well done in this example, the traditional sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This exceptionally high quality huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Ana Carolina Ajenel of Chichicastenango. W 90 x L 62 cm. (21-62) $ 425 or best offer.
