Santo Tomás Chichicastenango vintage huipil.

This exceptional circa-1960 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 brown cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The thread in these base panels is “ixcaco”, hand spun naturally brown cotton. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motif is floral patterns in supplementary brocade. It also features two "lunas". The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and was hand embroidered in cotton and silk. This exceptional huipil is in excellent condition. Chichicastenango huipils featuring naturally brown cotton are rare. It was acquired from an important private collection in Antigua Guatemala. W 90 x L 70 cm. (19-29) $ 350. OBO
