Santo Tomás Chichicastenango vintage ceremonial huipil.

This classic circa-1950 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels composed of hand spun thread and joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in hand-spun wool and silk. It features the two “lunas”. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The principal decorative motif is a highly abstract double-headed eagle motif. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in cotton and silk over velvet and is unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This huipil is in very good condition. It was acquired from an important private collection in Antigua Guatemala. W 87 x L 66 cm. (19-17) $ 425. OBO
