Santo Tomas Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil.

This beautiful huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three brown cotton base panels decorated with supplementary brocade, principally in silk. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motifs are a highly stylized double-headed eagle motif in the center panel and plumed serpent motifs. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipils. It has four “lunas” symbolizing the cardinal directions that are velvet with small coins attached.
