Santo Tomas Chichicastenango vintage huipil.

This classic huipil is stylistically pre-1950. However, it is almost in like new condition. It was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels composed of hand spun threads, joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in hand-spun wool and cotton. It features the four “lunas” representing the cardinal directions. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The principal decorative motif is the “W” version of the plumed serpent motif. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in cotton and silk over velvet and is unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This fine huipil is in excellent condition.
