Santo Tomás Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil.

This beautiful circa 1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams, primarily in silk. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade, very largely in silk, shaded from magenta to maroon to purple. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motif is the highly abstract double-headed eagle designs on each panel. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipils, here extravagantly offset in darker colors of silk. This very high quality huipil is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel at her tienda in Chichicastenango. W 84 x L 62 cm. (16-63) $ 300. OBO
