Chichicastenango antique huipil.

From the Dr. Richard P. Mandell collection.

This pre-1950 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels composed of hand spun threads, joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in hand-spun wool. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motif is the “W” of the plumed serpent motif. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This unique huipil is in very good condition. W 99 x L 77 cm. (16-224) $ 320. OBO
