Chichicastenango antique ceremonial/cofradia huipil.

From the Dr. Richard P. Mandell collection.

This circa 1950 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 white cotton base panels joined by seams of hand spun indigo thread. The base thread is hand spun. The supplementary brocade decoration is largely in wool and features double-headed eagle and plumed serpent motifs, with two “lunas”. The hand embroidered sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This huipil is a specific style that is used only at cofradia society events. It is in excellent condition. W 88 x L 72 cm. (16-216) Was $ 500. Now $450 OBO.
