Santo Tomás Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil.

This beautiful post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three brown cotton base panels. These panels are decorated with supplementary brocade, all in silk, in magenta, maroon and purple. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motifs are the plumed serpent motif running horizontally across each panel and a row of universal diamond motifs across the shoulders. The sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk over velvet and unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This exceptionally high quality huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Petronila Mendez Bocó at the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W 95 x L 70 cm. (16-165) $ 500. OBO
