Chichicastenango ceremonial corte (wrap skirt).

This post-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two matching weft striped cotton panels attached by hand embroidered decorative seams called “randas”. The exclusive use of silk in the “randas” indicates that this corte was used ceremonially. It features ikat dye patterns and employs indigo dye. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process similar to tie-dye. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Ana Carolina Ajanel at her tienda in Chichicastenango. The top photograph shows only half of the material available. W 78 x L 270 cm. (16-119) $150. OBO
