Chichicastenango ceremonial (cofradia) huipil. This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 white cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The supplementary brocade decoration is largely in silk and features abstract double-headed eagle and plumed serpent motifs. The hand embroidered sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This huipil is a specific style that is used only at cofradia society events. It is in very good condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo of Chichicastenango at the “bomberos” textile market in Panajachel. W 89 x L 62 cm. (15-30) Was $250. Now $200 OBO.
