Santo Tomás Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil.

This classic circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three brown cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated; featuring highly abstracted double-headed eagle motifs in supplementary brocade. The side panels feature plumed serpent motifs. The deep maroon brocade thread is silk. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and is hand embroidered, primarily in silk. This beautiful example is in very good condition. From Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 93 x L 64 cm. (15-253) Was $ 300. Now $250 OBO.
