Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil. H: 27”, W: 35”. Code: C75775. This fine huipil was hand woven on a backstrap loom in three cotton base panels. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring floral motifs, all in silk. The traditional sunburst collar is hand embroidered in silk. Although not a specifically ceremonial style, its richness in the extensive use of silk indicates that its original owner very likely used it only on ceremonial occasions. Circa 1990. This fine huipil is part of the collection of the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales Nim Po’t in Antigua Guatemala. $445. (15-18)
