Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil. H: 26.5”, W: 37”. Code: C3910. This fine huipil was hand woven on a backstrap loom in three cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams, all in silk. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade, featuring the plumed serpent motif, again all in silk. The traditional sunburst collar is hand embroidered, also in silk and velvet. Although not a specifically ceremonial style, its richness in the extensive use of silk indicates that its original owner very likely used it only on ceremonial occasions. Circa 1980. This fine huipil is part of the collection of the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales Nim Po’t in Antigua Guatemala. $460. (15-17)
