Santo Tomás Chichicastenango huipil. This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 brown cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated than the side panels. The decoration is primarily supplementary brocade, featuring highly sylized double-headed eagle motifs that incorporate universal diamond motifs. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and this example is particularly fine. This collar decoration is hand embroidered with chain stitching. This fine huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Juanita Conos of Chichicastenango at the La Fuente market in Antigua. W88 x L130 cm opened. (14-151) $150. OBO
