Santo TomásChichicastenango ceremonial huipil. This beautiful circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 brown cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motif is highly abstracted double-headed eagles in supplementary brocade. Most of the brocade and embroidery is in silk. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and is hand embroidered, primarily in silk. This very fine huipil is in excellent condition.
