Santo Tomas Chichicastenango vintage ceremonial huipil.

This pre-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 white cotton base panels. These panels are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams, largely in silk. The surface decoration is primarily supplementary brocade in silk featuring the double-headed eagle motif with four “lunas” representing the cardinal directions. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and was hand embroidered with chain stitching in cotton. This huipil is in good condition. It was acquired from Bonifacia Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her stall in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W79 x L61 cm. (13-12) $220. OBO
