Chichicastenango vintage daily huipil.

This fine pre-1960 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton base panels composed of hand spun thread. These panels are joined by hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated than the side panels. The brocade features wildly colorful floral motifs. It has two "lunas" on the shoulders, typical of antique Chichi huipils. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This collar was hand embroidered in cotton very much in an older style. This huipil is in remarkable condition. It was acquired from Juana Escalon of Patzun at the La Fuente market in Antigua Guatemala. W 87 x L 64 cm. (12-72) $230. OBO
