Chichicastenango vintage ceremonial huipil.

This museum quality circa-1940 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 cotton base panels composed of hand spun white thread. These panels are joined by “randas”, hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seams, partially in silk. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated than the side panels. The brocade features floral motifs mostly in silk. It has two "lunas" on the shoulders, typical of antique Chichi huipils. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils. This collar was hand embroidered in silk and very much in an older style. This huipil is in very good condition. It was acquired from Juana Escalon of Patzun at the La Fuente market in Antigua Guatemala. W 87 x L 75 cm. (12-272) $700. OBO
