Chichicastenango men’s ceremonial faja. W 26 x L 260 cm plus fringes. This circa-1980 faja was hand woven on a back strap loom in one red cotton panel. Each end has an area of supplementary brocade featuring plumed serpent and universal diamond motifs and hand knotted fringes made of the warp thread endings. This faja is an integral part of the men’s cofradia costume. It is in very good condition with one point of significant wear just above the brocade on one edge of one end. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (See Ana Carolina’s picture in our “Vendors” section.) (11-218) $ 95.
