Chichicastenango ceremonial huipil. W90 x L125 cm opened. This beautiful circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in 3 brown cotton base panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The center panel is wider and more extensively decorated. The central decorative motif is the double-headed eagle motif on the center panel in supplementary brocade. Most of the brocade and embroidery is in silk. The sunburst collar is unique to Chichicastenango huipils and is hand embroidered, again primarily in silk. In this case the collar has been opened by the maker to provide easier access and is trimmed with velvet. This very fine huipil is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Juanita Conos of Chichicastenango. (10-14) $ 250. OBO
