Chajul rebozo. (shawl)

This beautiful rebozo was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well-matched dark blue cotton base panels with narrow white and orange warp stripes. The warp ends are finished with hand knotted fringes on both ends. The base is dyed with indigo. It is decorated with supplementary weft brocade bird and plant motifs in silk. It is an outstanding example of an increasingly rare piece. Likely ceremonial use. It is in excellent condition. It was acquired from a private collection in Guatemala. W 101 x L 207 cm plus fringes.
