Chajul daily huipil. “The weaving in Chajul is especially firm and sturdy, and in order to achieve this, women usually stand at their backstrap looms rather than sit or kneel. (B)irds, corn plants, arrows and diamonds predominate in their bold style of single-faced brocade.” (“Threads of Identity”, Altman and West, p. 108) This post-2000 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two dark red cotton blend panels decorated by large, abstract double-headed eagle motifs. It is in excellent condition. Acquired from Doña Juana Mateo Rosales at her stall at Tinamit Maya on Calle Santander in Panajachel. W78 x L64 cm. (15-27) $95. OBO
