Chajul daily huipil. “The weaving in Chajul is especially firm and sturdy, and in order to achieve this, women usually stand at their backstrap looms rather than sit or kneel. (B)irds, corn plants, arrows and diamonds predominate in their bold style of single-faced brocade.” (“Threads of Identity”, Altman and West, p. 108) This post-2000 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two green panels decorated by double-headed eagle motifs. The base is “aleman”, a cotton/rayon blend prized for its drape. It is in very good condition. Acquired from Miguel Sol on Calle Santander in Panajachel. W82 x L56 cm. (15-26) $85. OBO
