Cantel rebozo (shawl).

Cantel has been the site of a textile factory since the 1880’s. There are, however, few hand loomed pieces that are village specific to Cantel. This fine rebozo was hand woven on a back strap loom in one cotton panel. If features complex ikat patterns on black surrounded by bright colored bands in the weft stripes. Cantel pieces are rare. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó at the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W 50 x L 162 cm plus fringes. (15-185) Was $ 75. Now $65 OBO.
