Almolonga corte (wrap skirt).

Hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two cotton panels featuring weft stripes with extensive ikat dye patterns in indigo. “By the mid-1960s the ikat styles had begun to predominate [in Almolonga]. The change from plain to such intricate skirts appeared to take place in an unusually short space of time. Patterns were conceived and executed with great technical skill.” (“Threads of Identity, Altman and West, pp. 121-2) Circa 1975. This fine corte is in excellent condition. From the collection of Joan Jacobson of Tucson. Weft 109 x Warp 226 cm. 21-250. $ 100 or best offer.
