Almolonga ceremonial tzute (utility cloth).

This post-1980 Almolonga tzute was hand woven in one panel on a back strap loom in narrow red, black and white cotton warp stripes that include ikat dye patterns. It features supplementary weft brocade in geometric patterns in silk. The silk indicates likely ceremonial use. Almolonga tzutes incorporating silk are very uncommon. This tzute is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (See Ana Carolina’s picture in our “Vendors” section.) W 62 x L 69 cm plus hand knotted fringe. (11-209) $ 150. OBO
