Almolonga men’s faja (sash).

This post-1980 faja was hand woven on a back strap loom with a cotton base. The base has narrow warp stripes that are red or simple black/white ikat dye patterns. It is decorated with supplementary brocade which we think is polished cotton embroidery thread, but may be rayon. Fajas such as this are quite rare. This one is in like new condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo of Chichicastenango. W 18 x L 224 cm plus fringes. (10-336) $ 45. OBO
