Triquis huipil from San Juan Copala, Oaxaca, Mexico.

This huipil was hand woven on a back-strap loom in three white cotton base panels decorated with red weft stripes and “plumed serpent” patterns in supplementary brocade. The white base thread and that of the red weft stripes appear hand spun. Our correspondent at the Oaxaca Textile Museum says, “it's not the traditional format but an innovation for the folk art market. I think it's quite recent.” It is in like new condition. From the collection of Yuri Saldyt. W 77 x L 103 cm. (16-134) $ 180. OBO
